- My only complaint would be the road up to the hotel. It was extremely narrow, and it was not clear I was in the right place initially. It was very difficult to manage the road when another car was coming from the opposite direction.

- WORST MISTAKE WE EVER MADE was that we didn’t stay longer. Incredible restored building with the most incredible staff, hospitality and bedrooms. It feels like Lake Como in the Lake District and the festive season made it all the more special. Within easy reach of all the quaint towns: Bowness, Windermere and Ambleside. The breakfast is amazing, the views captivating and the atmosphere feels nostalgic and warm.

- These are not things we didn’t like, but rather things for improvement to make it world class: 1) More halal options – there is a huge audience that isn’t entirely catered for and whilst the staff do their best to accommodate, additional options here would open up a new market 2) Afternoon tea whilst amazing should always be done on a tiered stand – it’s classical 3) Additional toiletries should be made available as standard in all bathrooms: dental kit, shaving kit etc 4) Consider extending room service and turndown hours – most people return to rooms in the evenings and there isn’t many options past 9pm if you are still hungry

- The staff are really friendly and helpul, but they need more of them. We had to wait 15 mins to get to our room and after a long journey I just wanted to settle. Breakfast service was really slow. The staff look frazzled so breakfast was not a relaxed affair. Our room's tea and milk were not refreshed automatically. The promised turn down service never happened.
- The bed was not comfortable, way to hard. The food was terrible at both breakfast and dinner; we only ate dinner there one night; had to send both meals. Even the room service food was hardly adequate for a 5 star hotel!! They need a new chef!!

We like it's situation and location as it's far enough away from the busier spots in the lakes, the roads are narrow which means you need to be quite determined to get here. Perhaps not so good for your business but adds a degree of exclusivity that we like. The beds were very comfortable and the Cumbrian breakfast was very tasty and filling.

- Kept waiting for the room to be ready, check late enough at 3pm but wasn't able to get in until 3.20pm
- The evening menu is aimed at a more exclusive level and the prices reflect this, perhaps it's because I'm a steak n ale man! My loin of land was perfectly cooked of course, I'm glad I opted for chips to fill the plate somewhat. It was a nice treat however, my wife prefers plainer cooking and settled for the soup, followed by the cheeseboard.

- Shower was slightly cramped for the size of the bathroom (Heelis room).
- Lighting in bathroom poor, no light over sink / mirror. No heating in bathroom but not very cold in September. Bed lumpy and pillows inadequate. No space to put items down and sit in front of mirror in bedroom. Tricky when using contact lenses.

- There is nowhere to put anything in the shower, so if you have say shower gel and shampoo you need to put them on the tray and bend up and down to swap. This could be difficult for older guests. The bathroom also became extremely hot. Potentially a stronger extractor is needed. These are very minor points however and wouldn't stop us from returning.

- Extremely expensive for what it is/what you get, didn't have much hot water on the second day of our stay.
- We did not appreciate being knocked out of bed by one of the staff as the room next door gave them the wrong room number to put their sauna on at 10pm. The staff were very apologetic the following day.

- Traditional country house hotel with a lot of charm and character. Well kept and clean. Warm throughout. Staff professional but also friendly. High quality food at dinner and breakfast. We used it as a stopover on a long car journey but it would also be a good base for a very scenic area.

Great ambiance, delightful menu choices and comfortable surroundings. All staff were extremely welcoming in all area of the hotel and spa. Special mention to Carol on reception on our arrival.
