Positive reviews

  • Apartment is immaculate lovely touch bottle of prosecco and milk in the fridge. It's close to everything you need ,beach ,bars ,restaurants and shops . Great communication from the hosts will definitely book again .
  • Great apartment – had everything we needed for a relaxing break!
  • Beautiful, well equipped apartment. Clean throughout as is the entire establishment. Great games room, lovely pool and clean changing rooms. Couldn't have asked for better. Owner was attentive too. Thank you.
  • Loved location so close to sea and shops , comfortable bed good quality bedding nice white towels well equipped kitchen nice touch to supply milk in fridge tea and coffee. good size tvs great parking bay comfortable bed settee, fabulous leisure facilities apartment really tastefully decorated and nice modern good quality furniture property nice and clean , the staff on reception were so helpful and friendly .
  • Very well situated and spotlessly clean. Checking in and car parking all worked well.

Negative reviews

  • Everything was perfect.
  • The bed is right up to the wall so difficult if you need to get out in the night. Also no bedside tables to put phone etc on and lamp is at the bottom of the bed so if you want to read in bed you have to get out to turn it off. The courtyard outside isn’t private and we had the people next door walking past the patio door so had to keep the blinds closed all the time we were in. Also there is only one sofa in the lounge so if there are more than two staying there is no where comfortable to sit.
  • patio furniture too low and not private would have benefitted from a screen as overlooked from windows and carpark which was a real shame as it is pleasant with all the plants so did not use . Would have been nice to have a manual explaining about how heating worked as we didn't have a clue although we could have contacted someone if it was a problem . the bed being against the wall was not the best trying to get out without disturbing partner however we had a fab stay and would recommend to others .
  • We didn’t realise that the patio area was actually a walk through for lots of other apartments. So didn’t feel comfortable using it. The patio furniture wasn’t suitable for older people. And felt there could have been hooks installed in bedroom and bathroom for dressing gowns. Especially in the bathroom as there was nowhere to put your clothes when showering. Also a grab rail to get in and out of the bath to use the shower. Also a privacy film or something is needed in the bedroom as again it’s right on the patio where everyone walks. And really could have done with a brighter main light in the bedroom. Maybe another saucepan could be provided as there was only one.
  • The flat was really hot and there wasn't a fan provided, no instructions on how to use the heating system either as I would have liked to turn on the radiator in the bathroom to dry my wet beach stuff. Bedroom defiantly needs black out curtains, a fan and maybe a shelf above the bed to put a drink or phone at night. But to be clear, I had a great time despite this!

Positive reviews

  • Excellent bar area great atmosphere. Nice decor and staff very helpful and friendly. Car parking good. Room well appointed and comfortable. Great view.
  • Lovely friendly kind staff. 2 people that really stood out was the male receptionist and a young guy in the restaurant. We had a deluxe king, which was a nice size room. Very comfy bed. A nespresso coffee machine was a defo bonus and i asked for fresh milk and decaf tea in a message before I arrived and it was all in the room on arrival. A fantastic breakfast, great choices, wonderful service. Its a wonderful hotel in a great spot. Cant wait to return.
  • Everything, especially the food. Above all, the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful.
  • Great location and very comfortable with good car parking
  • Room was very well laid out, fantastic view to the marina, breakfast excellent, staff excellent.

Negative reviews

  • The safe didn’t work and the view was slightly impeded. We don’t eat dinner at the hotel because it’s not good enough food.
  • The swimming pool was closed due to Covid but has never reopened. That’s a real shame as a hotel at this price point should have the pool open.
  • Radiator in room needed to be bled to remove air
  • The food and drinks were overpriced compared to other high end dining experiences we had in Dartmouth.
  • Added service charge at the bar without telling you until we saw the invoice upon checking out. You do have the option to cancel this but you do need to check you invoice.

Negative reviews

  • Swimming pool chlorine levels seemed very high – caused my skin to react.

Positive reviews

  • Did not have breakfast, the location was close to the town
  • So convenient for the Railway Station (we arrived by train and walked) and the Bus Station, the hotel is immaculately presented with comfortable lounges and a lovely first floor seating area looking out over the river. The staff were friendly and the food excellent.
  • Breakfast was wonderful
  • Fantastic staff, lovely room (had an upgrade 👍) and amazing food. Lovely location too.
  • This is truly the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Our room was spectacular — the beds were incredibly comfortable, and the view was stunning (we paid extra for the river view, and it was absolutely worth it). Despite being so close to the town centre, the hotel is wonderfully peaceful — it feels like a hidden retreat in the countryside. I have a gluten intolerance, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate me. The food was outstanding, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. This place holds a special meaning for me and my partner, so much so that we’ve already booked to come back for Christmas. A huge thank you to everyone at The Imperial for making our stay so memorable.

Negative reviews

  • The heating only came on in the day, quite old fashioned it did not have a display to change heating.
  • Location old world charm
  • Noise from other room at 2am kept me awake

Positive reviews

  • Amazing location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Superb views on sea front rooms. Great food at dinner. Spa was good, sauna steam room and jacuzzi. Indoor pool lovely. Interior looks recently renovated and rooms clean and comfortable.
  • First class spa facilities. Friendly, helpful staff
  • Beautiful, immaculate hotel. Really lovely staff, especially Ryan who works in the restaurant.
  • Fabulous location Loved the evening meal and the fitness classes. The staff were great, friendly and very helpful. The room was cold but very comfortable with the addition of a portable heater.
  • The staff were attentive, kind and helpful View was amazing and spa was delightful I have no negative comments about our stay

Negative reviews

  • Although it’s an iconic art deco building, the outside despite regular paint jobs looks quite dated and it lacks the wow factor that balconies would provide. It’s also crying out for a rooftop bar but i guess there’s similar architectural constraints here. Having said all that I’d still recommend a stay here.
  • Quality of coffee and the eggs at breakfast were very disappointing but the rest of the breakfast was good. Paid for two spa treatments (2x 1hr massage) – both only lasted exactly 45 minutes – the time spent relaxing in the wellness area with a cup of herbal tea should really NOT be included in the treatment time – the massage was advertised as £100 for an hour!
  • Gym equipment could have been better maintained, Smith machine bearings almost siezed.
  • Room too hot. Toilet leaked, mentioned it to reception, it wasn’t rectified.
  • The coffee!!! The machine coffee was awful. Fresh coffee essential in a 4 star hotel surely??? Frash menu was limited. Didn’t like limited choices and powdered egg on buffet.

  • The staff were exceptional throughout. The property and the grounds are really peaceful and attractive.
  • The room, the golf course the pool
  • Activities proposed by the hotel were really fun, and led by knowledgeable and friendly guides. The premises had several beautifully-decorated and comfortable lounges to relax. The grounds are beautiful to walk through and offer great views.
  • Stunning hotel. Excellent service and attentive staff. Beautiful location and grounds. Lovely nature walks.
  • Amazing hotel, friendly helpful staff that went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The food was excellent and our whole stay was perfect

Negative reviews

  • The gym could do with a bit of an upgrade. Disappointed that the Great Western restaurant was closed and that Smiths Brasserie didn’t have a great selection of green vegetables to accompany the good food that they served up.
  • The swimming pool and changing rooms work but could use a refresh. The food at Smith's is not the best, especially given the price.
  • The food was not first class. The breakfast was far from value for money. We had to ask for everything – coffee, toast, milk. The pool was cold.
  • Some areas need TLC (ceilings), staff lacking training for a 5-star establishment (no offer of assistance from the doorman when arrived in the rain, at check out we weren’t asked how was our stay) – Sally being the exception, the cooked breakfast was disappointing (for example only one half of an English muffin seemed unnecessarily stingy)
  • The bed was very high. The continental breakfast was expensive.

  • Modern & close to beach, friendly staff, excellent food. Very good spa pool & gym,

  • Superb location, great facilities and brilliant staff and food!
  • The room was great with a balcony overlooking the sea. The food was delicious the staff were very friendly excellent dining staff. We had a spa booked and had a really great relaxing facial then relaxed for while on a very comfortable lounger used the pool and the jacuzzi. We just had the best time and can’t wait to come back.

Negative reviews

  • The sleep wasn’t the best because you could tell the rooms didn’t have the best soundproofing with an uncomfortable mattress.
  • The shower was above the bath and could benefit from a grab handle.
  • Booking.com states breakfast included. But need to state only continental breakfast included.
  • The food wasn't as good as it was on our last visit. The vegan burger left a lot to be desired, and some elements of my wife's meal appeared to simply be reheated and not prepare freshly. Given the cost of the meal we would have expected far better.
  • Single road access down to the hotel was a little challenging.

  • Bedrooms are nice and bright with nice views. Nice bright restaurant. Reception staff good & welcoming. Bedroom cleaning staff are quick & efficient. Rooms were nice & quiet at night.
  • Great property nice spa fantastic view great staff my only minus is restraint is a little overpriced and food was average at best but there are plenty of other places to eat so don’t be put off I will be going again just eating elsewhere
  • Lovely room and great location with beautiful view from the room
  • Staff couldnt do enough for you. So so helpful and friendly. Gorgeous location and great facilities.
  • The location and cleanliness everywhere , food is fabulous! And the staff are lovely and so helpful

Negative reviews

  • Service at dinner was a little slow, perhaps understaffed in kitchen off season and restaurant was quite full with a lot of people waiting quite a time so that was hard on waiting staff. We waited 40 minutes for our main course to arrive after starter and were not alone. But waiting staff were apologetic and it could have been a one off. We also felt the fruit at breakfast could have been a little more imaginative, largely melon/apple/grapes for the fruit salad ? Perhaps some berries or bananas or some fresh grapefuit would be nice on the buffet. But generally food fine.
  • Thinking we had breakfast included and then being charged extra for cooked breakfast
  • Jacuzzi not working
  • Room could of done with a little maintenance particularly in the bathroom. Mainly paint swollen bath panel etc. and reception desk could be bigger with more staff on for when its busy.
  • Pillows uncomfortable

Negative reviews

  • As off season the restaurant and bar were not available but team did inform us in advance of arrival.
  • Two floors up with no lift
  • A bit expensive. Bar closed after 7.30pm
  • Toilet seat was loose
  • Breakfast was not the best . full English missing beans / hash brown etc / toast wasn’t great and not enough butter . felt very delayed getting hot drinks and breakfast out . I would say communal commercial toaster would be a great addition so you go up , bang a few slices of bread in , and could help yourself to toast and butter while you wait for the main breakfast . Also a hot water urn with mugs and tea bags and coffee so again you could help yourself while you wait for breakfast . but 100% with full English , it needs beans , hash brown and some sort of sauce ( brown sauce / ketchup etc on the table and salt and pepper ) . felt like a very dry breakfast . These additions would then mean that any delays getting breakfast out aren’t a problem because you’ve got a bit of toast to tie you over and a hot drink .
