- When staying here I was looking for a place which would allow us to feel like home, and this is exactly the feeling here. You can cook, you have a place to sit and eat, the toilet has a nice size, bed was comfortable.

- There was no cleaning service the entire stay. At this price I was expecting there to be more service. I even had to take the rubbish out myself at the end of the stay. The kitchen had no sponge or dish brush and no dishwashing liquid or tabs. I am used to getting at least one tab when I stay in apartments. The rooms were freezing cold – I was told the central heating was struggling because of the extreme cold outside (-10). The blankets were flimsy summer weight blankets so we froze the first night. The reception staff was super nice and got us 2 brand new extra blankets.
- Rates little high. No breakfast facility. At least buying can be provided.
- Stayed for 10 days and I couldn’t connect Netflix! The TV system didn’t allow me to use my HDMI also.
- Room windows at the parking space level (cars parking just at the window level, meaning noise and lack of privacy).

- The location by the lake was magnificent. The dinner in the restaurant was excellent. There even was a possibility to rent kajaks directly at the hotel and there was free charging for our hybrid car. Whenever we will be in this area again, we will definitely choose Villa Baro!

- The beds in our room were quite uncomfortable. They consisted of two single beds pushed together that moved apart easily, and they were too soft and wobbly. Unfortunately, we didn't get a good night's sleep. 🙁

- breakfast was average at best. we had to ask for everything from bowls to croissants etc. the only thing in plenty supply was coffee. the buffet was always empty and eaten, this is the one big thing that needs improvement.
- Everything else. It was so stressful, a total shambles. They didn't have any food, and didn't notify me that I needed to make my own eating arrangements – what hotel doesn't provide food?? It's because they were having a special event, but I should have been made aware, especially after driving for over 5 hrs by myself and at the end of driving through 7 countries! A little bit of food shouldn't have been an issue. They sorted food in the end but it was eventful and more stress that should have been avoided. Me and my dog were screamed at by a group of golfers, repeatedly. We were walking away but they kept on angrily shouting – I don't speak Swedish so I don't know the words they were using, but anyone can understand when someone is being nasty regardless of the language. The room was horrible, it was boiling hot, the beds were uncomfortable and my dog wants panting the entire night due to how hot it was which kept us both awake (not ideal the night before attending a wedding!!). The shower was covered in mould, the shower door was broken, the shower gel did not work and the conditioner was really horrible quality.

- The bacon had a strange test a little like plastic and the scrambled egg was not real scramble eggs or at least did not taste like it.
- I booked there thinking I could use the gym facility but it is closed now and won't reopen for several months. The hotel offered me to you a gym from another hotel (10mn walk) but the gym facility there was small and in poor condition.

- Impressive with nature and Middle Ages at your doorstep. The location is superb and the town a must to walk. The castle is around the corner but the convent with the church is the most stunning.
- The hotel seems to be a collection of historic buildings dispersed across the old parts of town. So it’s really a collection of boutique hotels. The one we stayed in had very comfortable rooms. The buffet breakfast in our particular building was truly outstanding attended to by charming staff – lots of variations on a Swedish theme as well as the usual staples. Parking directly outside our building. Very close indeed to the lake shore, the castle and old town.

- Although out of keeping with the decor, to have at least one good reading light in the bedroom would be welcome
- Be aware that where you check in might not be where you’re staying. Don’t unload your luggage until you know where you are. Reception staff not really “on it” in the run up to our stay. Slow to respond to messages so we ended up not being able to book the restaurant at a sensible time. As it happened after wandering around town looking we ended up having a superb meal in the Slotts Garden Hotel and restaurant (part of the Klosterhotel set up). Some initiative from reception staff would have been helpful. Most large hotel estates I’ve stayed in like this had golf buggies to ferry customers about. Why not here? My daughter found the outer door mechanism awkward to get into our building. It’s actually ok once you’ve got the hang of it. Worth practicing with party members.
- The main issue was that because there were conferences or large corporate groups that had booked out the restaurant it was denied to guests at any sensible times. It would have been good to have been notified in advance especially on a Monday when the town itself is also pretty much closed.
- Our room was in an annex building that was surrounded on three sides by roadway inches from our windows. It was necessary to use blackout shades at all hours to provide any privacy at all. The small bathroom incorporated a gigantic spa/bathtub that was a complete death-trap. Had to sit on side and maneuver a hand-held wand to take a shower.
- We stayed in the annex of Klosterhotell in Vadstena for 3 nights in July 2025 (room booked via Booking.com). The room was comfortable and pleasant, breakfast was very good, and the breakfast staff were friendly and attentive. However, there was no room service—or if there was, it wasn’t functioning at all. On both full days of our stay, we returned in the evening to find the room uncleaned and towels unchanged. After contacting reception, someone eventually came to tidy up in the evening, which is far from acceptable. On the second day, following the advice from reception, we placed the “Please clean the room” sign on the door—but even that did not help. Housekeeping still didn’t show up during the day. This is simply not the level of service expected from a hotel in this category, especially not at the premium price charged. It’s a bad feeling to return after a long day and walk into an untidy room. If daily housekeeping matters to you, we would not recommend booking this hotel.

- The only very minor issue was the lounge sofa was torn and very sharp to sit on. But that was only minor as overall our stay was fabulous
- No safe in the room, only one small pillow each. The bathroom was outdated. The restaurant service was unsatisfactory. It took 3 hours to have a main course. The drinks were not served in appropriate glassware. Staff had limited knowledge of food and drinks menus. Not enough seating in the bar and lounge area for the amount of guests. Staff were reluctant to open other areas for seating.
- Lack of air conditioning. It was too hot in the room and opening the window did not help, in contrary, then there was a lot of sound as the room was located towards a roof. Only 1 of 3 charging stations for Tesla was working.
- The annex which we stayed in was run down and smelt of damp. We were overcharged on three separate occasions. The staff were pleasant but not so well trained (generally or in the establishment’s own systems). The food in the restaurant was of poor quality. Overall the establishment has aspirations beyond its competence.

- Location, very open facility, honestly having staff just online was nice and less intimidating, having two lifts were very nice, spacious room with closets, necessities that was included were nice, chair and table area was cozy along with the tv, bathroom and bed was spacious enough for us.

Easy after-hours checkin (as long as you can find the entrance, that is). Also, the stairwell absolutely rocks for doing cardio/legwork!

- Not that soft pillows, very dirty utensils and had to clean everything before use, floor was dirty, not any interesting channels, the timers on the kitchen were very tirint, 30 minutes was too little time, the room was always hot and the window couldn't be opened so we had to ask for a fan, we couldn't adjust the oven by the window, we found a used sock from last guest on one of the chairs, dusty bathroom when we arrived, not sure if the room was even cleaned at all that day or the days before we arrived, despite arriving at the evening.
- The hotel has become more rundown over the years, but the finish is still acceptable although the entrance feels a bit shady. No breakfast served, if you care. Also, a burglar alarm was blaring for hours on a lower floor, which possibly says something about security. Location is outside the city center (though close to the main station).

- The rooms were a bit damaged in some places like i found some cracks under my sink. My first room also had mold in the freezer because it had been turned off and it smelled. Staff was very helpful and offered to move me to a different room, the new room however had 2 broken lights which I emailed about and was fixed the next day. Soap dispenser was broken and had hair on it, staff fixed it but fell down again the same day it was fixed.but I do want to praise staff for being very responsive to feedback and concerns!.

- Very strategic location near the station. Nice breakfast option, and due to peak occupancy they even open a 2nd area, although when we came there there aren't high chair for kids so we come back to the fuller main area. One of the meeting rooms also converted to playroom which is appreciated.

- No kettles in the rooms. On the second day I learned there is a machine where you can buy hot drinks, but that is not the same as being able to make a drink in your room. It is a large hotel and it was a very busy time at the start of the Swedish school holidays, but it would have helped to have more than 2 people on duty at the reception desks.
- Had booked a Family Room – 2 adults, 2 children. On arrival, no beds made up for the children. Just a large heavy sofa bed. When I complained, I was told that we were expected to make them up ourselves. I pointed out I was 80 years old! They then immediately sent someone up to do it. Also, I was asked if I wanted to have the room cleaned during our 3 day stay! Apparently, some people don't! Surely it's a given to have a hotel room cleaned daily?
