- Exceedingly comfortable & stylish room. Spacious walk-in powerful shower. Lovely staff & fantastic food & drink. Lovely bar with open fires. A great stay. Perfect in every way.
- Lovely staff. Gorgeous room. Lots of walk / run routes nearby. Delicious restaurant. Staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. Loved the suite.
Negative reviews
- PUB: Although staff were very friendly, they seemed inexperienced or not particularly well trained. Small oversights in restaurant service (e.g. pot of tea served without milk, no cutlery or salt & pepper on the breakfast table, dirty plates & cups not cleared) slightly tarnished the otherwise aesthetically pleasing, warm, and comfortable pub restaurant experience. The chef deserves a special mention, though, as the food quality at dinner and breakfast was excellent. ROOMS: Staff inexperience and an apparent inattention to detail or lack of oversight on the accommodation side of the business showed most here. There is no obvious reception area for check-in or check-out. The restaurant staff have to attend to you in between their busy food service duties. When booking, I specifically requested a room with a bath and to check in an hour early, so that we could rest immediately after enjoying lunch at the pub (as I explained in detail in my written request). An automated response on the Booking.com platform simply pointed to an additional £10 per hour booking fee for early check-in, not addressing my specific request. In the end, we stopped for a long lunch elsewhere on our trip down to Malpas to delay our arrival until the official check-in time, instead of our preferred option of enjoying lunch at The Lion Pub and retiring to our room immediately after lunch to rest. On arrival just after the official check-in time of 15:00, there was no longer a room with a bath available – my request had clearly not been read or considered. We were left with the uncomfortable choice of either twin beds or a shower, instead of a double bed (labelled as a King bed on the Booking.com platform) with a bath, as requested – further hampering our desire for a rejuvenating afternoon rest on our travels.
- I was cold!
- Service charge with no notice.
- Arrived back 22:45 expecting a night cap The bar was shut on both nights we stayed
- No shampoo or shower gel in the bathroom dispensers. Not enough hooks and hangers in the room.

- The room, restraunt, leisure club and hospitable staff
- We had a wonderful stay in room 230 with a lovely view of the sculpture garden and lake. Unfortunately we didn't have time to use the facilities but everything looked amazing. We would definitely stay again and this time use the spa if any special offers came up. We also had a great experience using the air rifle. James was fantastic and we would definitely do it again. Thank you! We will definitely return. Hotel staff were amazing. And very helpful.
- Staff was so friendly and place was amazing
- Breakfast was nice and the restaurant had a gluten free menu which was amazing. All the facilities were great and the staff were amazing.
- Everything was a joy and the Spa was something out of this world. My girlfriend had the best day on her birthday.
Negative reviews
- No umbrella in the Garden rooms so if you are dressed for dinner you have walk in the open to get to the main building. If its raining you get wet not a great look for my Wife.
- Noisy inconsiderate neighbours at a2am!
- Walking from car park 7 to the otherside of the building
- We were given a family room which was not up to standard. Apparently due to problems with booking.com. They had even left a cot up in the room
- Breakfast was mayhem, think you would be better to service tea, coffee & toast at tables…plenty of staff walking around. A lot of the food out was luke warm and juices were empty more than full which was disappointing. Service for afternoon Tea was very slow too and again some of the sandwiches the bread was slight frozen/hard! Best thing was the Scones!

- All good !!!
- We always use this place for our staff – great location and nice little hotel. Will keep using it throughout 2026 GF Holdings
- Very clean and obviously recently refurbished..helpful friendly staff, big bed and big TV ..right in the centre 👍
- Perfect location. Excellent room with extremely comfortable bed. The pub next door is both friendly and lively – great beer and choice of wines.
- Large bed, large TV, good shower, easy check in
Negative reviews
- Shower screen ineffective, and Hot and cold feeds on basin sink are wrong way round!
- Though there were tea and coffee facilities it would have been nice to have a biscuit too. The reception isn’t manned for much of the time but a call can be made to the pub next door to get someone over.
- No radiator of any sort in bathroom although bedroom area did.
- Parking is a nightmare. I have a Blue Badge and there are 3 spaces but all were occupied by cars without the badge. It would be possible to park there then go to the Airport as there are no checks.
- Toilet struggled to flush, toilet seat didn’t fit and the lid slammed down, thats a 20 pound simple fix, very weak shower, Heavy bathroom door that slams shut on its own, it nearly caught my hand once and would have done damage, I could hear doors slam in nearby units. No air conditioning, we opened the window at night to fix the stuffiness. The temperature was good because it was a cool night. I wouldn’t want to stay there in a heat wave. You know about the problem because I noticed a portable fan on the floor

- Great location. Close to Lyceum Theatre.
- Lovely comfortable rooms, great reception area/plenty of seating and access to hot and cold drinks and snacks. Good selection of buffet breakfast. Beautiful surroundings and very good security at road entrance. Very friendly and helpful reception staff.
- The hotel is brilliantly located for business travel when I'm in the NW.
- Good breakfast
- Comfortable rooms, nice location
Negative reviews
- Breakfast was poor. Staff were grumpy
- It was a little out from our relatives who live in Crewe so either they were collecting us or we had to get cabs back if everyone was drinking alcohol which was £14:50 one way.
- The outside A/C fans running for other rooms during the night are audible from the room. If the hotel resolved this, the hotel would be a delight.
- Bar closes far too early
- We were disappointed that the restaurant wasn't open as it had been closed for New Year. It had stated that it would re open the day before we arrived. The hotel was cold. It's a big open space and obviously is costly to heat. The rooms were warm enough though.

- Lovely location and beautiful building and grounds. The hotel is made by its really pleasant and helpful staff. Room was comfy and quiet. Plenty of parking. Afternoon Tea was lovely.
Negative reviews
- Couldn't get my shower to work properly, so had a bath instead. Very expensive for food although very nice. Didn't go for the Smoked Salmon and Scrambled eggs for breakfast as there was a £6 surcharge!!
- The main restaurant was closed this time, which is a lovely palacial wood panel room. The other room was okay.
- Just the temperature in the room really. I love heat but this was like a sauna. No lift
- Small maintenance issues (leaky tap, hole in curtain lining)
- Extractor fan outside our bedroom window was loud in the morning.

- Lovely property . Historical detail

- The breakfast was excellent and very varied enough for anyone’s taste
Negative reviews
- My room took about five minutes to walk to and there were at least ten sets of stairs. I'm fit and healthy but with a suitcase, a briefcase and a handbag to carry, it wasn't a great experience. Travelling back down the two spiral staircases with luggage was quite precarious. I was in the tower and the room was lovely but I feel there should have been a warning. Even the slightest of mobility issues would have made the room impossible to reach. Reception was very smooth but there is an unusual process at breakfast as you wait to be seated at the top of the stairs – I waited for Ben who was mad busy but other staff who seemed less busy let me stand there for about five minutes…I was then seated and again waited for Ben to take my drink order. Poor Ben. A bit of teamwork is needed in the restaurant.
- It was cold. I know it’s January but had to sit in the wine seller bar with our coats on.
- Only one dark and cold bar open. Poor hospitality tray. Even though breakfast had to be ordered didn’t seem freshly cooked – tough bacon, rubbery egg etc as if it had been under heat lamps.
- No heating on in room when we arrived so it was freezing and took ages to warm up slightly, Heating also switched off in the night despite radiators turned up to max
- Horrible rooms all dark tired and cobwebs in mine Moved rooms that wasn’t much better No proper training in place about telling guests where breakfast is and when on check in etc Plastic on bathroom floor Terrible beds that sink in middle Rang hotel twice to get a twin room In advance and they still got it wrong 🙈🙈🙈

- Really outstanding staff, ALL friendly and helpful with a genuine caring attitude. Very clean Very good breakfast Good spa and leisure facilities Great for our dog, I.e. allowed in part of restaurant and very good outdoor space. Also not over run with dogs. Lots of carparking
Negative reviews
- Slightly strange in that we had a lovely big room and a very small bed.
- No one warned us that the plate was hot at our function causing a burn to a finger.
- the lights + TV in my room keep discharging loud electrical noises at night, I finally switched off everything at the sockets, which seemed to stop all noises
- Bar prices are a bit high
- Slightly dated decor, with some webs on curtains and some older duvet covers with some holes, but generally a good standard for the price.

- Great location as we were attending a party nearby
- Rooms were big and spacious
- Breakfasts spa everything
- The room was nice and spacious. The staff very friendly.
- This hotel is luxurious, spacious, immaculately kept and in gorgeous Cheshire countryside. Very convenient for trips to North Wales, Chester, Liverpool and Nantwich. The staff were exceptionally good, and helpful (notably Joe on reception) but all staff really unusually helpful. The room was spacious and comfy and spotless. The restaurant and breakfast are very good, with excellent Gluten Free options (great for Coeliacs like myself). Staying at this hotel reminded me of how good hotels can be. Such a long stretch from some of the ropey London hotels I have stayed in recently.
Negative reviews
- Food was ok but not a wide choice
- The prices of food were a bit over the top
- The Salt Restaurant is poor. Choice of food on menu good however half of the items were ‘unavailable’. Same at the bar, how can a 4 star hotel not have any lemon for your G&T (they did manage to find some eventually but it shouldn’t be an issue in the first place). Whoever is doing the ordering isn’t doing their job very well and it spoils the hotel experience
- Nothing. The heater in the room made a clunking noise at 6am both days for quite a while which disturbed our sleep.
- Nothing really apart from being very expensive for drinks at the bar. Would have spent more time in the hotel if it wasn’t so expensive for drinks.
