Positive reviews

  • My wife and I travel very frequently both for business and pleasure. We have stayed in many hotels. We have learnt to manage our expectations. Bodmin Jail Hotel far exceeded those expectations. It is unique and quite stunning, with superb attention to detail. Highly recommended.
  • Beautifully decorated . Staff were lovely
  • Beautiful room & friendly staff
  • We stayed for New Years Eve, murder mystery event. it was fantastic, the staff were so friendly and welcoming and made us feel special from the moment we arrived. The event was well organised, food amazing and a really good atmosphere amongst the staff, who were working so hard but smiling with it and looked like they really enjoyed working there; great to see. Room was lovely, although a bit spooky but that was all part of the experience!
  • Hotel was beautiful. Room was stunningly decorated.

Negative reviews

  • We were disappointed to be asked for a gratuity at check out; fortunately, we'd seen a previous review forewarning us so were prepared to politely refuse. Please cease this practice. We were also very disappointed to see dogs in the otherwise quite superb dining room.
  • Would be nice to have some spa facilities
  • Low lighting, need brighter light for shaving and/or makeup. Table near mirror for hair appliances. Very expensive food & drink.
  • Bar needed a good clean no staff in attendance to serve drinks waited 15 minutes then had to go look for a member of staff ordered a bottle of champagne only to be give a warm bottle which was sent back (once we went looking for the bar man 🙄)only to be given another warm bottle with no ice or serving cloth need better training
  • Evening meals whilst excellent and well presented, the menu was the same for both nights. From the sample menu posted on the hotels website it doesn't appear the menu ever changes. However, fine if staying for no more than two nights.

Without exception the staff were all very impressive. It was a delightful experience.

Negative reviews

  • £16 for a g&t.
  • We were in a loft room which meant a lot of stairs.
  • Light pollution (from outside lights left on all night) together with a winter-weight duvet made for an uncomfortable stay. Blackout blinds and a lighter duvet would have made our visit so much better.

Positive reviews

  • The apartment was spacious and exceptionally clean and tidy. The bath was nice and deep and the bed was so spacious that there was enough room for myself, partner and toddler and we still had plenty of room. My toddler and stepson both thoroughly enjoyed the pool however the flume wasn't working when we visited but it wasn't an issue at all. As it was an overnight stay we never got around to using the crazy golf or do the fairy trail but that only encourages us to come visit again in the warmer, drier seasons. The food was great and all the staff we interacted with were really friendly and welcoming. The birthday card and chocolates left in our apartment for my partner were a nice little touch too.
  • Great facilities, friendly staff.
  • Hotel was excellent top class
  • Friendly staff and great spa facilities
  • Fantastic place to stay. Lovely apartments. Big comfortable bed. Food in the restaurant was very nice. Swimming pool and saunas were wonderful.

From being greeted at the entrance by Michael, the staff on reception, and those who we had the pleasure to talk with, Sayeed, Dylan, Molly, Verity carried a calm assurance that we were special guests as they went about their duties. They were attentive, and nothing was too much for them. They treated you as a VIP. The ambience of the hotel gave a feeling that you could relax and enjoy every minute of your stay. Positive reviews

  • 4th visit in about 6 months and we just love it! Despite living 30 minutes away, and being very well travelled, this place is an absolute benchmark to what a hotel should be. The staff are absolutely amazing, from the minute you check in, to the minute you leave. ♥️
  • Food is great and the pool is very good
  • Staff were amazing Service excellent Food exceptional
  • The staff were extremely professional, polite, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is in a fantastic location for the race, and the food was excellent especially the breakfast. The spa and pool were great additions to the stay, they can get a bit crowded.
  • I was so impressed about their accommodating attitude towards the runners – 100% will be back if I run again next year and will be recommending them. Last year had awful experience at a hotel in st ives which was supposed to be 4 star but was terrible. Couldn’t rate this one highly enough. Thank you!

  • The swimming area was very busy.
  • Corridors dusty and clearly not hoovered in sometime along the edges.
  • The sofa bed for the children was not comfortable.
  • The room was stuffy even with no heating on and the windows open all night. Would have liked a shower cap to be provided as you can't lower the shower head.

  • Great location for visiting friends. This was our second stay. Lovely and clean and very comfortable bed. Reception Staff were friendly and helpful
  • Clean room, friendly staff, good breakfast.
  • Obliging friendly staff. Very clean and comfortable. Everything needed for your stay.
  • The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and the rooms had everything that my daughter and I needed. The swimming pool would, I imagine, be wonderful during the Spring/Summer but wasn't for us at Christmas 🤣Although it didn't really bother me either way, my 11-yr-old daughter loved the fact that the hotel was dog-friendly and I must say that her joy at seeing all the dogs in the annexe, where we stayed, put a smile on my face. The breakfast selection on offer was impressive from pastries and fruit to cereal and the full English. The scrambled eggs were particularly nice so compliments to the chef!

Negative reviews

  • The only negative for me, and I appreciate that this is obviously a business decision, was the lack of a bar past 10pm. It would have been nice to relax with a drink late in the evening.
  • Would have liked different pricing for continental and full breakfast.
  • A bit noise in the morning maybe because of the heater.
  • Swimming pool out of use
  • Previous occupants in the room had spilt milk, the smell was very unpleasant, it was finally discovered so we were able to settle for the night.
