Positive reviews

  • Honestly the best hotel we've been to in the UK (and probably most of the world)! From start to finish the staff went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The food was so tasty, not one bad course and they amended anything to suit my dietary requirements without fuss. Special mention to Victoria who served us breakfast, lunch and dinner and could not have been more amazing! The grounds are spotless, even with it being a working farm. The spa and communal spaces are an asset to the hotel, so clean and well designed. We want to come back tomorrow!
  • They’ve beautifully combined the farm barn features to a modern clean design. Plenty of space and facilities are exceptional. Enjoyed all of the fresh food provided, views, little touches to pass time like the smores and garden/farm tours. The staff are all incredibly friendly and attentive – they really make this place special.
  • The staff were honestly brilliant, we were so well looked after, every single person we spoke with was so kind and personable. They really made our stay. The facilities were perfect, and the view just beautiful. It was also great to see so many animals on the farm in great conditions. I had a treatment in the spa with Shelly who was just amazing. We also did a vineyard tour and wine tasting with Michelle who was incredible knowledgeable and friendly. The food – particularly that Sunday roast – was also amazing. I would highly highly recommend this stay, it is a real retreat and break from reality.
  • We honestly couldn’t have asked for more! The staff were so wonderfully friendly and welcoming, it felt like home from the moment we arrived. The farm-to-table ethos meant the food was absolutely delicious, and the kids had the best time with all the activities (farm tours, meeting baby lambs, feeding pigs, horse riding, swimming and mini land rover rides), and we’ve made the loveliest family memories walking through the grounds every evening. Being only a short drive (10 mins) from the coast was the cherry on top. A brilliant little find.
  • Breakfast was delicious with a buffet choice and cooked options too. Lots of top ups for tea and great coffee.

Negative reviews

  • Nothing, couldn't fault it!
  • We stayed in the 2 bed lodge and the middle bedroom didn't have a mirror – probably has one now!
  • Ambience excellent – only downfall was the supper was cold so had to be re heated
  • I am afraid there were some dusty shelves in Hazel. But hey nevermind.
  • There was really nothing that I didn't like about this place. A lot of money has been spent on it and it shows.

Positive reviews

  • Very friendly staff and fabulous restaurant. Loved the dog wash area and little touches like umbrellas, wellies and dog towels around.
  • Excellent service without being intrusive. Excellent food well presented and very toothsome. The setting of the hotel is also wonderful. Very comfortable room and lots of added touches.
  • I’ve stayed in many hotels but Summer lodge’s attention to detail and customer service is outstanding. Rooms so comfortable with all details catered for; excellent food, relaxing lounge/ bar/snug, spa is super. Great location as a base for discovering Dorset
  • Superb in every aspect
  • Attention to detail, lovely staff and fantastic food

Negative reviews

  • A fridge in the room with fresh milk would have been nice.
  • My wife had to return her venison evening meal as it was not hot. Very disappointing considering your expected standards.
  • Bathroom could have had an uplift.
  • The lighting in the room was a bit precarious (flickering lights)
  • Tired, crumbling, faded – needs serious refurbishment of the exterior and the interior

Positive reviews

  • The property was soo clean and warm when we arrived and it smelt lovely! The people who worked at the pub were also so friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be coming back to stay in the summer. Great service and experience all round.
  • Friendly staff, spacious clean room, comfortable beds, easy parking, lovely breakfast.
  • Beautiful property in a picturesque location. The rooms are very well equipped, tastefully decorated and very clean comfortable. They serve an excellent breakfast and the lunch or dinner is equally good. Staff are amazing, so friendly and welcoming and nothing seems too much trouble
  • Very comfortable and clean. The hosts have thought of everything to put in the studio to make the stay as enjoyable as possible.. it was a real home from home. Everything was on hand.
  • Very helpful staff, clean comfortable room, good amount of drinks available tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc, good shower

Negative reviews

  • No ventilation in the bathroom
  • Access was fine for us but may not be for all- the room was accessed up steps from car park – anti slip tread and automatic lighting.
  • The shower was fixed and very high for me. I couldn’t move the shower head down at all so I couldn’t have comfortably washed my hair. Also a small thing for most people but the candle/ incense smell was really over powering. It smelt as soon as you entered the room. For me it was really uncomfortable as I suffer from severe eczema which is aggravated by strong perfumes.. I should however point out that I should of messaged the hosts before my stay in case there was any thing like this in the room and they could have rectified it before we arrived..
  • price for room and food was a bit expensive, can be a bit more affordable but quality was always above normal
  • Next to a noisy road. This isn’t a quiet location. Friday and saturday evening is a place where local youths gather and the noise was bad. Complained the next day but nothing came of it.

Positive reviews

  • I stay here frequently and everything is consistently excellent.
  • Another gem of a find in delightful Dorset. Within easy reach of the Salisbury-Blandford Road (and hence on to the east-west A35) it would be easy to think of the Museum as a convenient stopping place but it is so, so much more. At the gateway to Cranbourne Chase, a comfortable, friendly pub with way above average food. Loved it!
  • Great location in a very pretty Dorset village. The rooms were very clean, comfy bed and good heating. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. Very dog friendly. Staff lovely, very helpful. Good breakfast menu and all food excellent
  • We had an absolutely amazing stay at Moles Cottage and couldn’t recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home. The cottage is beautiful, comfortable, and exceptionally well cared for, making it the perfect place for a family stay. My whole family loved it, and there was something for everyone to enjoy. The photos really don’t do it justice — the cottage is even more charming and spacious in person. Everything was thoughtfully laid out, and it was clear a lot of care has gone into making it a welcoming and relaxing place to stay. We were genuinely sad to leave and would happily return without hesitation. Thank you for such a wonderful stay — Moles Cottage is a real gem and we hope to come back again in the future.
  • We absolutely loved The Museum Inn. After we booked on Booking.com there was regular updates from them specifically about their menu as my partner is celiac. And they were having a Spanish Tapas night the night we were there and nearly all the dishes were GF. Unheard of normally. And huge choice of fish and vegetarian. Food was sooooo delicious. Service could not be faulted. Big shout out to Shannon. Loved our room The General's. Big super cosy, loads of hot water, amazing bed and pillows. A dream. I'm signing up as a member of Butcombe Inns. I am going back there again after my travels to have more of this place.

Negative reviews

  • Nothing that the pub could address – it was a horrible day, roads flooded, others closed by nasty accidents but all this was more than made up for by the warmth of the log fire and the welcome.
  • The room description indicated robes were available but none were present.
  • The rooms need an update. The shower started dripping in the middle of the night by itself? Hole in the bathroom floor covered by vinyl.
  • We thought from the picture the room were bigger
  • The fire alarm went off at 3:30am with no members of staff on site. We phoned the emergency contact number but no one answered. Eventually a member of staff arrived an hour later. It was left to the guests to try and turn the alarm off and phone the fire services to check the building was safe to return to.

  • Beautiful location, Helpful, friendly staff. Lovely food
  • The property location overlooking the ocean is absolutely stunning. Very peaceful. Bar area and restaurant were extremely comfortable and clean. • Warm, luxurious, spacious, and well-appointed. The staff were friendly and efficient. Good food and drink.

Negative reviews

  • It would have been better if the hotel was open.
  • When we asked in advance for a window seat for dinner, reception made it quite difficult “can’t guarantee etc. etc.” lots of reasons why not as opposed to positives, the hotel wasn’t busy as closing for a break on the Sunday. Could have been a bit more amenable with our request.
  • Could do with a pool, spa or gym. Just something other than lounge
  • There were some issues with water pressure/lack of hot water at times and a very noisy shower in room 28.

  • We were shown to our room and offered help with luggage, which was a nice touch. Went for a swim in the inside pool which was warm and clean. Ate dinner in the restaurant, service and food was good but we thought the food was a bit overpriced. Breakfast was good and our waitress enhanced the vegetarian full English offer with a couple of hash browns which was so nice of them! Room was nice, everything was good 🙂
  • Staff were particularly friendly and helpful

  • Amazing from start to finish. Friendly welcome on arrival, shown around the hotel which was really helpful. Breakfast is fantastic, nothing is too much trouble, the staff are fantastic. The whole place is geared towards families with children of all ages, cinema time with free milk and cookies is a nice touch. The facilities are fantastic, met loads of other families enjoying special time together. We will definitely go back, highly recommend for a luxury family break.

Negative reviews

  • It would have been nice if the receptionist told us that we needed a pound coin for the lockers at the swimming pool. We were going to go out in the evening but the single track unlit road to the hotel was so full of potholes that we feared we might damage our car in the dark so we opted for the restaurant and had to pay their expensive prices. Would have been nice to been able to watch our Netflix account in our room, but this option was not available
  • Restaurant 30% overpriced
  • There could be a couple more vegetarian Food options
  • We wish there was an on-site gym.
  • Cleanliness of rooms and communal areas was not good. Cobwebs on bedside table, floor under beds not hoovered. Public areas/shelves/ornaments not dusted. Decor tired. Food was very expensive and well below expected quality. Burger was tough, dry and small. Used crockery etc sat on empty tables for a long time. Breakfast was good. The mini fridge wasn't turned on so contents (including fresh milk) were at room temperature. Remote for the TV was missing.
