Positive reviews

  • We loved everything, stayed twice. Attentive staff, beautiful surroundings and super comfy beds. First time stayed for my partner’s birthday and staff was so so attentive and we had a great stay. Second time we were treated to room upgrade. Both times we were allowed to use the pool/spa area after checking out. Honestly one of the most pleasant hotel stays we’ve experienced. Can’t wait to return if we ever come back to the area!
  • Everything was great! Super close to the sea.
  • Luxury facility in all respects. Easy stroll to the ocean, where you will find the beautiful Passeggiata Anita Garibaldi, a paved walkway along the coast that takes you to the picturesque little port of Nervi.
  • Our stay at the Capitolo Riviera Hotel was nothing short of exceptional, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! The location is fantastic—conveniently close to the train station, making it a breeze to explore the stunning Riviera. The hotel itself is a modern gem, with sleek, beautifully designed architecture and impeccable landscaping that create a welcoming and luxurious atmosphere. Everything was spotlessly clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. What truly set this hotel apart was the staff. They were incredibly helpful, warm, and went above and beyond to make our stay feel like home. A special shoutout to Simone, who was an absolute star! He organized a boat charter for us, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip—swimming in the crystal waters of Portofino and visiting the breathtaking sunken statue of Jesus of the Abyss was an unforgettable experience. The hotel also impressed us with their attention to detail, even ensuring our electric car was fully charged and ready to go. In an area where finding a high-quality hotel with exceptional service can be challenging, Capitolo Riviera is a true standout. We’re already looking forward to our next visit! Highly, highly recommend this hidden gem.
  • There are many things that we liked about Capitolo hotel, first one is the amazing and wonderful staff at the hotel, they were very helpful and very professional. It was a great experience, wonderful atmosphere, very nice room, very clean, amazing location

Negative reviews

  • Restaurant is very nice, a little bit overpriced for value.
  • There were no major issues during my stay, but I did encounter a small inconvenience on the first night. However, the hotel handled the situation with great professionalism and offered me several compensation options, which I highly appreciated. The only other minor downside is that services and facilities around the hotel are quite limited, as the surrounding village is small and not very well serviced.
  • Parking is a little bit expensive.. but it’s worth it because of the (valet) service.
  • Everything was perfect, only one recommendation, they need more equipments in the gym
  • Le prix du parking est beaucoup trop cher. La piscine est trop petite Le restaurant est un peu prétentieux. Il manque de plats simples et bons qui correspondent aussi à une demande

Positive reviews

  • Location was great and easy to access and park, sea views were gorgeous, they accommodated us with adjoining rooms with my father. Fantastic breakfast buffet and staff. Beautiful pool and sea access. Everything.
  • Beautiful building with incredible marble structure and amazing ornate fresco ceilings in some locations. There is a beautiful walk to a private pool and seaside sun lounging area with dining and bar facilities. Staff incredibly attentive, really couldn’t have asked for more, one of the best experiences Ive had in any hotel.
  • Elegant hotel with a large, beautifully maintained garden and stunning views. The staff were excellent—friendly, attentive, and professional. The beach club and pool area were superb, making our stay truly relaxing and memorable.
  • The location, view, style, staff of this hotel is beyond amazing! I wish I could remember the name of the precious young lady who checked us in as she was the highlight of our stay. She was beyond a 5-star employee! VERY professional, sweet, charming, efficient, pleasant and helpful! The room was exquisite! Views, breathtaking! The breakfast (which were the only meals we ate), was ok. Nothing to write home about. The staff, inattentive. I picked up on those that had been to breakfast seemingly like several times, we treated very well. We only went 3 times. Food was decent, nothing spectacular.
  • My wife and I stayed for three nights for our wedding anniversary. I'm so pleased we stayed here; the hotel is absolutely stunning. Full of beautifully decorated bars and restaurants . The breakfast options were fantastic and the bridge/steps down to the beach/restaurants equally wonderful. Our room had a lovely view across the bay looking towards Portofino. I glad we chose to stay here in Santa Margherita rather than in Portofino – so much more to do

Negative reviews

  • Nothing
  • The breakfast was just ok. see comments above.
  • Elevator keeps failing needs new ones Noises early morning at the back of the hotel Beach club needs an elevator
  • Rooms could be a bit more modern

Positive reviews

  • Great hotel , amazing views , very friendly staff , really impresive villa !
  • The view and pool were amazing. The food was excellent as well.
  • ✨ Our stay at the hotel was absolutely wonderful! The rooms were spacious, clean, and cozy, with a beautiful interior and everything needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were always friendly and attentive, ready to help at any time. Breakfast was delicious and varied, and both the restaurant and bar left a great impression. The location is very convenient, close to everything. Excellent value for money — we will be happy to come back again! 🙏🏼
  • A beautiful, peaceful place. I recommend a room with a balcony. We give it full marks despite some shortcomings. Hopefully they will learn from this and next time everything will be 100%.
  • Wonderful hotel, excellent service, great location, excellent dinner

Negative reviews

  • a bit far from the center …
  • We were under the assumption that we had a room for 4 people and were told upon arrive that wasn’t possible and was no refund would be made for suite booked. Leaving us no choice but to book additional room for the night.
  • Terra restaurant disastrous. The waiter couldn't explain what was on offer. You buy a multi-course menu, but you don't know what. When we asked, the waiter was arrogant. The same thing happened when choosing wine. The food was simple, uninteresting, and unimpressive. We were disappointed, as the upper restaurant had been an excellent experience the previous day in terms of both food and service. There was also a big problem with the bathtub in the room. If you want to fill the bathtub, you have to start 2 hours in advance. The water pressure was very low. Clearly unresolved. No room service!! Expected in 5* class
  • The parking was a little tricky, and the road to get there a little bit scary but otherwise no complaints at all!
  • Breakfast was of good quality but not very rich

  • Luxurious/ clean and smell good ! It is a good location where you can walk during the night and visit easily Portofino. We really appreciate that they made an upgrade for us because it was our honeymoon !
  • Excellent service, beautiful views, comfortable bed, AMAZING breakfasts (with prosecco)

Negative reviews

  • Dogs were allowed in the dining areas. This is both unhygienic and unnecessary.
  • Unfortunately there was no courtesy light that can lead you to the bathroom without turning on strong lights. This is a shortcoming to be fixed
  • Super super small room.
  • Hotel is getting old and would need a revamp. Lots of weird & bad smell in the common areas Bed not comfortable for a hotel of this standard
  • Breakfast varieties were below average ! The Bread was not good at all . It is almost the same breakfast i had in this hotel 2 years ago 🤣.

Positive reviews

  • The Style.
  • Breakfast is fabulous. If booking try for a higher floor as the view is some what blocked on lower floors
  • The staff were so helpful, friendly and kind The hotel was like the old style fashioned star. Food was excellent
  • the hotel feels very luxurious. had valet parking which was great for us. you can have a coffee or drink outside with a beautiful view. there's a pool and spa facilities available to all of the guests.
  • Everything! This hotel is stunning! The service, staff, pool! Everything is fabulous! Will definitely be back!

Negative reviews

  • the room felt a little tight and the bathroom is slightly outdated – nothing major. we were really excited to eat at the restaurant and the service was fabulous but the food was mediocre and very expensive
  • The only downside was the soundproofing in the bedrooms. You can easily hear guests in bedrooms on both sides of you. Didn’t affect us hugely but something to bear in mind.
  • Price of drinks
  • No soundproof walls, no beach
  • The service in the breakfast was extremely poor despite many staff attending . They sound untrained nor concerned. There was disparity between staff members everywhere in the hotel and those serving the breakfast.

Positive reviews

  • breakfast choice was amazing. Fresh, plenty, 'cloud egg' very impressive. Allowed us to sit in the lounge area and offered cutlery and plates to eat when we were back at hotel late after work.
  • The beautiful Palazzo, the extreme attention of the staff, amazing fresh breakfast, explanation of and tour around the Palazzo, a magnificent room with all a guest could wish for.
  • The staff competent, attentive & friendly. The room was very large & very well appointed The fresco in the room was beautiful.
  • Our stay at this hotel was truly excellent. From the warm and professional service at the reception to the comfort of the room, everything exceeded our expectations. The facilities were outstanding, making our experience even more enjoyable. We are very impressed and will definitely plan another stay here soon.
  • Fantastic historic palace in the heart of Genoa, with few rooms but exquisitely refined and luxuriously finished. Immense halls and very spacious rooms. Highly recommended. Valet service included.

Negative reviews

  • Maybe the noise from the bar area but only on 2 evenings
  • The location was right at the Main Street between the port & businesses. Very active & very loud. The room was the only one on the main floor with a balcony. Couldn’t enjoy the balcony due to the noise. We were told we would not hear the noise due to the installation of double pane windows. However, every night the noise kept us awake until around 1:30 am.
  • We had to turn the aircon off as it was too noisy to sleep with it on and it made the room very warm. Ceiling was very low , I'm not a tall person but could touch the ceiling. Staff were not overally friendly but were efficient. Water pressure could have been better in the shower.
  • The location was sketchy when getting back at night near the port. Also would have liked option to have lunch or dinner at hotel.
  • The location is by the marina/cruise terminal with all that comes from being located in those areas. The streets were dirty with lots of garbage. Saw a few rats. The hotel can’t do anything about that, but it’s unfortunate that such a nice hotel has to be located in a part of the city that the city doesn’t maintain well.

Positive reviews

  • The service was outstanding and the property stunning
  • Location and staff👍
  • The staff were excellent very attentive and the hotel was beautiful and in a great location walkable to town.
  • The staff, and attention to detail was incredible. Rooms were extremely clean (multiple times per day), facilities were great too (pool beach club etc). Everything was truely exceptional. The view & location was also perfect.
  • Amazing hotel with beautiful views, staff were very friendly and helpful. A really enjoyable stay.

Negative reviews

  • The pool was amazing but had no vibe . Would have been nice to hear some background music
  • Couldn’t stand the music at the bar in the evening. Really really bad and made us stop sitting at the bar.
  • Nothing much, pool could use less salt, pool food could benefit from some salt 🙂
  • Hotel is amazing and these things did not make our stay any worse but just some notes for the hotel Only downsides were probably the waiters in the breakfast they all seem very stressed and it’s not necessary because when you’re having breakfast you don’t need table service but they are running around pouring water when they should just have that self service. Also I have never had to pay extra for an omelet at a hotel breakfast which is very strange when you’re paying €1000 a night It’s strange the lunch is really good with normal portions and decent prices but at dinner the portions for the same things are much smaller and more expensive, dinner restaurant is not good.
  • I believe the food especially for dinner service and lunch menu. The breakfast was delicious and was really good.

  • great staff, great food, great location

Negative reviews

  • Car Parking
  • Should not pay extra money to access the swimming pool when booking a room in a five stars hotel. The experience remained alright nevertheless.
  • The only very minor negative is that perhaps the spa area would benefit from a little tlc – the pool is lovely, but some of the areas just felt a little worn (the odd missing mosaic tile, used towels left on loungers, no lockers in the ladies changing area).
  • Not many restaurants close by.
  • That you had to book the gym and pay to use the pool.

I've stayed in many hotels and I think they do a wonderful job here.

FAQ

Which hotel is best for EV charging in Genoa?

Capitolo Riviera is a top choice: the hotel states it provides electric vehicle charging on the premises and pairs that convenience with landscaped gardens and sea views. Meliá Genova and Hotel Palazzo Durazzo Suites also list on‑site charging (Palazzo at an extra cost), so confirm charger type and availability with the hotel before arrival.

Which hotel is best for charging and parking on the Portofino coast?

Excelsior Palace Portofino Coast indicates EV charging stations are available in its paid garage and can be used free of charge when parking there, making it the most convenient option for charging and parking on the Portofino coast. Splendido Mare offers garage parking but does not explicitly list on‑site EV chargers, so guests should check parking and charging terms before booking.

Which boutique hotel in the historic centre offers EV charging?

Hotel Palazzo Durazzo Suites is a luxury boutique set in a 16th‑century palazzo in Genoa’s historic centre and offers on‑site electric vehicle charging for an additional cost. Parking is by reservation with valet service, so contact the hotel to reserve a charging space and confirm fees and availability.

Which hotel is best for spa facilities and reliable EV charging?

Capitolo Riviera combines a dedicated wellness area (Onde wellness), spa and fitness facilities with on‑site electric vehicle charging, making it an excellent choice for guests who want both spa services and charging. Excelsior Palace Portofino Coast also offers a full‑service spa and EV charging in its garage, so either property is suitable depending on preferred location and amenities; always confirm charger details in advance.

Which seaside hotel is best for visiting Portofino while charging an electric car?

Splendido Mare, A Belmond Hotel, Portofino is the best seaside option for direct harbourfront access to Portofino, but the property does not explicitly list on‑site EV chargers; public and municipal chargers are within a short walk in the town centre. For guaranteed on‑site charging with easy access to Portofino attractions, consider nearby hotels in Santa Margherita Ligure or Rapallo (for example Excelsior Palace or Capitolo Riviera) and verify charging arrangements with the hotel before arrival.
