Positive reviews

  • Excellent service
  • Everything was exceptional, staff was lovely, hotel was clean.
  • World-class hotel, the best I have stayed at anywhere in the world. The culture of the hotel is fantastic. The team are out of this world. The facilities are amazing. There are five restaurants, all of Michelin-star quality (and some are Michelin-starred). The associated pub is the pièce de résistance. The owner, who I had the pleasure of meeting, was wonderful.
  • Beautiful hotel ,Lovely grounds & the staff were very welcoming.
  • The service and spa

Negative reviews

  • Sadly the building is old, so has some of the detriments of an old building, such as loud floorboards and poor soundproofing.
  • They are pulling peoples eyes out with the price of their f&b
  • Mattress was soft & Drinks were a little pricey .x
  • We would have preferred the option of a "light" breakfast as we are not early eaters but there was no choice. We were promised water and chocolates in the car to "continue the Grantley experience" but they were not there..
  • Meal in fletchers very disappointing as expensive Food was cold, sides very expensive and didn’t enjoy. Service was excellent but food was not.

Positive reviews

  • Honestly the best hotel we've been to in the UK (and probably most of the world)! From start to finish the staff went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The food was so tasty, not one bad course and they amended anything to suit my dietary requirements without fuss. Special mention to Victoria who served us breakfast, lunch and dinner and could not have been more amazing! The grounds are spotless, even with it being a working farm. The spa and communal spaces are an asset to the hotel, so clean and well designed. We want to come back tomorrow!
  • They’ve beautifully combined the farm barn features to a modern clean design. Plenty of space and facilities are exceptional. Enjoyed all of the fresh food provided, views, little touches to pass time like the smores and garden/farm tours. The staff are all incredibly friendly and attentive – they really make this place special.
  • The staff were honestly brilliant, we were so well looked after, every single person we spoke with was so kind and personable. They really made our stay. The facilities were perfect, and the view just beautiful. It was also great to see so many animals on the farm in great conditions. I had a treatment in the spa with Shelly who was just amazing. We also did a vineyard tour and wine tasting with Michelle who was incredible knowledgeable and friendly. The food – particularly that Sunday roast – was also amazing. I would highly highly recommend this stay, it is a real retreat and break from reality.
  • We honestly couldn’t have asked for more! The staff were so wonderfully friendly and welcoming, it felt like home from the moment we arrived. The farm-to-table ethos meant the food was absolutely delicious, and the kids had the best time with all the activities (farm tours, meeting baby lambs, feeding pigs, horse riding, swimming and mini land rover rides), and we’ve made the loveliest family memories walking through the grounds every evening. Being only a short drive (10 mins) from the coast was the cherry on top. A brilliant little find.
  • Breakfast was delicious with a buffet choice and cooked options too. Lots of top ups for tea and great coffee.

Negative reviews

  • Nothing, couldn't fault it!
  • We stayed in the 2 bed lodge and the middle bedroom didn't have a mirror – probably has one now!
  • Ambience excellent – only downfall was the supper was cold so had to be re heated
  • I am afraid there were some dusty shelves in Hazel. But hey nevermind.
  • There was really nothing that I didn't like about this place. A lot of money has been spent on it and it shows.

  • Bed in suite 12 very firm; side near the bathroom lacked a pillow top and metal supports could be felt.
  • Steep walk back up the road after long days of hiking.

  • Some of the restaurant costs were highly than we would have expected, but again the standard was high.

Positive reviews

  • Room was lovely, location was perfect for the wedding we were attending at Meldrum House hotel and the owner was very obliging in arranging an early check in for us.
  • everything was great especially the food.
  • Room was warm and very comfortable, breakfast was excellent.
  • The hotel was absolutely lovely. Spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated. The food in the restaurant was delicious, definitely worth the money. All the staff are nice and friendly.
  • Stuart and staff very welcoming and friendly. Very large bedroom and large bathroom. The balcony was great addition too.

Negative reviews

  • No cooked breakfast.
  • 1. You couldn't get straight into the pub/restaurant where you eat breakfast & evening meals. You had to go outside and back in the front hotel access area. Not a big deal, unless the weather sucked. 2. Our shower had no hot water. We told them, and they'll check it out. Should be an easy fix. Saying all that, we definitely would return.
  • We could have used some house slippers. The food in the restaurant did not rise near the level of the accommodation. My ribeye, for instance, was 1cm thin and "grilled" in a pan… When you go to eat in the countryside you do not want to see supermarket frozen fries!
  • Breakfast was the only negative thing. For the price per night, a hot breakfast would have been better.
  • An external fan was a little disruptive

Positive reviews

  • Perfect in every way. The staff were genuinely welcoming and couldn’t do enough. The attention to detail and the quality of fixtures and fittings was second to none. Will be booking for a longer stay in the future.
  • The small and exclusive makes it very special. The staff was impressive, kind and attentive but not intrusive. .thank you!
  • Fabulous hotel …friendly attentive staff would definitely stay again
  • It is all round excellence.
  • Really nice rooms and quality finishes. Also a fantastic breakfast.

Negative reviews

  • Fridge in room was quite noisy. Only complaint
  • Food was, I thought, expensive – London West End prices and though it was very tasty, the restaurant was noisy and didn't feel as expensive as the food was. Just lacked the ambiance that justified the prices. Otherwise no issues.
  • Continental breakfast could have been improved with a couple more options: fresh fruit, for example. The rooms were not very well insulated from the corridor and upstairs footfall. A little expensive for a hotel that I would not necessarily consider a destination in itself.
  • I didn't quite understand why we couldn't check in to at least one of the rooms a little early given it was so quiet. Also the bacon sandwich was pretty poor quality and it would have been nice to offer breakfast outside given the weather.
  • Challenging for tall people . Restaurant not open Monday to Wednesday and no suggestions as to alternatives

Positive reviews

  • The ambience, room comfort and decor, luxury room accessories, including selection of top quality teas, hot chocolate and coffee machine with coffee pods. Very cosy and comfortable bed. Breakfast was included which was exceptional in quality, presentation and served hot with top quality tea or coffee included. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Also had an evening meal which also was fantastic quality and very reasonably priced. Possibly the best Inn we’ve stayed in which ticked all the boxes one requires. I highly recommend it and will definitely be returning.
  • Really lovely rooms, excellent restaurant, comfy sofas, staff were delightful. Walked around the gorgeous village loop. Close to Flatford Mill. Perfect spot for a relaxing weekend.
  • Beautiful room and bathroom. Spotlessly clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. Delicious breakfast.
  • Lively hotel, excellent bar and restaurant area. Great atmosphere. Exceptionally clean and well maintained. Staff were lovely and really helpful. Food good and the breakfast was very generous.
  • Wonderful staff, beautiful room and breakfast, even our dog was spoilt.

Negative reviews

  • The attic room 3, sloping walls so had to watch your head if you're a 6 footer. The widow in the bathroom meant no privacy when in there.
  • Shower over bath (handheld) was difficult to use. You either had to sit in the bath or stand up. If you stood up the water went everywhere! If you were an older couple you might have trouble getting in and out of the bath.
  • Unfortunately there was a problem with the sound system which came on loudly at 04:30 in a room directly below our bedroom. I did report it in the morning and the manager was very apologetic. It wouldn’t stop us staying there again.
  • Couldn’t get radiator in room to work so it did feel cold but we let reception know.
  • The waiting time for breakfast, over 1 hour. We understand busy times, perhaps limited staff but felt communication on timings could have been better.

  • Outstanding hotel with amazing views of the fells. Staff were fantastic. Food was unbelievable!!
  • Famtastc breakfast, great selction, all fresh produce. Lovely staff.
  • Beautiful location. Our suite and the communal areas are beautifully presented with just the right level of mixture of modern comforts and cozy English countryside. The artwork around the hotel is very engaging and interesting. The food is delicious and presented also as work of art.
  • Found a little gem. From the location to the staff, everything was just perfect. Excellent location, Windermere view point from the hotel patio is just unexpected. The staff is so attentive, approachable and very friendly.
  • This hotel is sublime. The attention to detail, the cleanliness and comfort, the professionalism of the staff, the decor, the grounds, the food – all exceptional. A sophisticated hotel with a quiet luxury that allows you to feel indulged but also relaxed and comfortable. Every single person we met who worked there was polite, friendly and helpful. The management should be very proud of their staff. We felt very well cared for and refreshed and we are already looking to rebook.

Negative reviews

  • The walk up the hill to our suite after dark is not well lit.
  • My only complaint would be the road up to the hotel. It was extremely narrow, and it was not clear I was in the right place initially. It was very difficult to manage the road when another car was coming from the opposite direction.
  • It's always nice if there is an easily accessible sauna, hot tub etc
  • The room was on the small side given the amount paid for it.
  • Access to public transport , we needed to arrange for taxies

  • We have stayed here a few times now and find it homely with the subtle touch of luxury.
  • Exceptional service, never been so happy during a stay. Highly professional, friendly and accommodating staff. Incredible breakfast and spa area. Thank you so much for everything, will be back for sure!
  • Everything, there is literally no fault to this hotel. Spa is the best iv been to and service is second to none
  • Beautiful hotel. Couldn’t be better!
  • Loved the spacious bedroom and all the extra amenities.

Negative reviews

  • Cover charge in bar, and one of the staff in velvet bar was very condescending although most were lovely.
  • We have stayed here twice now, my boyfriend has a severe Nut allergy and both times with our room service breakfast we have had nutella in a jar on our table. I know this would have been a genuine mistake however does not fill with confidence that the staff take having a nut allergy serious.
  • Pricing of anything not included with the room – breakfast pricing is crazy. Also taken aback when a discretionary service charge was added to the overall bill, which is really quite cheeky.
  • The halal options in restaurants were not satisfactory. Very small mocktail served to me would have liked a bigger glass, espa toiletries no longer available in rooms.
  • The thermal area was disappointing as we specifically booked as we wanted to spend time relaxing. The jacuzzi style pool was low heat, the steam room smelt funny and it seemed the art of peace and relaxation is lost on young couples who talked and laughed loudly in the jacuzzi area without turning the pool jets on so nobody could use it. It was a great space but poorly managed. This is a spa issue. You have the amazing facility but it’s not being watched carefully enough
